Welcome to Inverness Men's Shed
A Men’s Shed is a place where a man who has time on his hands can go to make things, use tools, relax and make friends. Many men like to get involved in practical tasks and get to know people by working alongside them but Men’s Sheds are not just for men who like DIY and woodwork. There is space to try a wide range of other activities and to pursue individual interests. It is important that men pursue their own interests and choose what they want to do. A Men’s Shed benefits not only the men who use it but it benefits wives, partners and family. Apart from the obvious benefit of getting them out from under their feet, it also gives men a reason to get out and about. There are many health benefits to be gained from attending a Shed. For example, avoiding or changing from a passive lifestyle (eg watching lots of TVs) to an active participatory lifestyle and combating loneliness by spending time with like-minded folk.
Our Men’s Shed
We are a registered Charity and all those involved are volunteers.
We were set up as a Men’s Health initiative specifically to tackle social isolation and loneliness experienced by older men brought about by life changes such as retirement, bereavement and illness.
We provide a friendly and welcoming facility in which men are able to do things … with the added advantage of having more involvement with others and making a contribution to their local community. As well as practical groups we also have several social groups where older men can simply talk, write, sing or listen.
Encourage others and promote general physical and mental wellbeing.
Inverness Men’s Shed is a local volunteer-run facility that enables people to come together around practical projects of their own choice.
Share skills and interests, swap ideas and pass on knowledge.
It is a social facility with a practical bias. It is a registered charity with the sole aim of reducing loneliness and isolation, particularly amongst older men.
