Manx Shearwater Nest Boxes

The National Trust for Scotland wanted to make 15 Manx Shearwater nest boxes to go on Canna, and needed some workspace and assistance. We had previous experience of making next boxes for Leach’s Petrels to be used on Fair Isle and we were happy to help with this project.
The new boxes are made of precut slate and held together with aluminium brackets. We had to cut spaces for the doors and, with our help, the NTS staff were able to assemble all the boxes in one day.
